spring cabbage

for those of you that grow spring cabbage when in your opinion is the best time to sow I always sow the seed around mid July then prick out into pots and overwinter  in the poly tunnel is that about the rite time for sowings?

Living where I do I cannot start them off that early . I have found for me that sowing first week in August has worked well but most of those are ready just about Christmas time so another sowing in mid September this year should see them into the spring.
