Wilted potatoes
« on: June 26, 2020, 22:15 »
Iíve just had a look at my spuds
And found a couple with yellowing foliage and a couple with brown basically dead foliage (see picture)
They arenít all the same variety Charlotte and Desiree. The potatoes underneath are ok.
Anyone have any thoughts ??
I did note that the soil was quite dry surprising eally given the amount of rain weíve had in the last week or so although been very hot the last couple of days.
The rest of the spuds look ok at the moment
Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks Twood

Looks like blackleg to me. I always get a few casualties to it each year and just remove the infected foliage, as you have done. Crop is usually ok but best to use those spuds first as they may not keep.

The professional advice is to remove the tubers as well and destroy the lot in case of the disease spreading. Not that easy if itís in the middle of a patch of potatoes, hence my more relaxed approach 😎

Same here, and make sure to rotate potato planting around the plot as the bacteria may survive over winter in ground and infect any potatoes replanted there.

I'm not good, I'm not bad - I'm just me, and sometimes I have to apologise for that ;)
