Blanching leeks, to late?
« on: June 18, 2020, 17:01 »
I did this today (put the black sheet in front of the leeks)Am I being hopefully that this will blanch the leeks?
If not would it have worked if I had done it earlier?
There are 3 other terraces I could do it to. One is no where near the same height as these are.
Thanks for any help.

I don't think that will actually exclude enough light to blanch the stems, it's usually done with lengths of plastic pipe poked over each plant or something like the cardboard tubes from inside kitchen rolls, or simply earthing up.

I would disagree the white blanched bit taste far better, as I eat with my eyes. Yummy yummy white bits in my tummy. The rest for the dog.

Can't earth up there and can't put them in deeper as mice constantly disturb the soil underneath them. I suspect I would be feeding them as well.
