No pollen
« on: June 17, 2020, 08:45 »
Every year my courgette plants (Defender) frustrate me by not putting out any male flowers until late on. This year they have done the same and the male flowers have only started arriving in the last week or so but they have no pollen in them

Has anyone else had this problem? What is causing it?

It doesn't answer your question directly but I now grow a variety that doesn't need pollinating (Parthenon) for my early/first courgettes.

I then grow other varieties which give me fruit a bit later in the season.

Has worked for the past years.

My first male flower with loads of pollen has just opened  :D

I guess that it was just a timing thing; I did start them off earlier than I usually do.
