Broad beans flowering

Broad beans flowering

Hi

Growing dreadnought broad beans

Apparently they grow over a mete tall

Mine are only about 30cm tall and already flowering ..... This normal?

It is probably a reaction to the dry spells we have been experiencing.  If short of water, most plants give up trying to grow taller and just move onto flowering.

You might get a bit less of a crop, but they will be fine  :)

My broad bean plants are considerably shorter this year than normal but they have all grown multiple stems; at least 2 and many 3. I've had the odd one grow a second in the past (particularly if the 1st gets damaged) but all 30 plants….

Remember to nip the growing tips out at 1st sign of blackfly , some of my plants are a 800mm high have nipped the tops on them , nearly always muliple stems on mine maybe its the variety I grow Aquadulce.
