Tree Ties

This sort of fabric tie can be a better bet.  It does rot in the end, but it doesn't tend to snap like plastic ties.

I tend to hoard any such fabrics I come across e.g. straps off bags and backpacks that are going in the bin.  It might be worth having a rummage through the bottom of the wardrobe before you shell out 

Hello try old tights or stockings twist them slightly to make like a rope they last about a year and are easily replaceable  jezza
