Parsnip success !
« on: December 25, 2019, 09:01 »
Well I went out and threw the fork under one of my parsnips hoping for a success for the Christmas dinner and I think I can say my making a conical hole and filling with compost and sowing on top of that worked! I will only need the one! Of course the proof in in the eating so I will have to report back on that but they seem to have grown well.
If you look the lovely Eucalyptus that was blown over is lying just in the background

Well it passed the taste test! We like our parsnip mashed with butter, salt and pepper. It was great and although we do not get much by way of frosts it still was sweet. I think I will be doing the same next year but in my raised beds with auto watering to make sure they get enough water to keep them happy.

That is Merlin. He and his three brothers and sister were born at the bottom of the veg plot under some rabbit rearing cages. He and his brother Arthur are resident chez nous and his two brothers stay with our neighbours sadly his sister was killed on the road. Here is Merlin making sure all is well with the parsnip and a photo of the gang of kittens... Arthur has the white face
