HHHints Water

Bob flowerdew recommends that in the growing season you water your plants with at least 1" of water on hot days, and I agree with him.
Watering is the best thing you can do for your plants.  Its natures best fertilizer, and done properly it will ensure that you get bumper grops.

Yes you still need to feed your plants as required but watering is life.

I know that we all had too much water last year but just in case this year is hot and dry (we can live in hope can we not) start making your water plans now.

Does you lottie have adequate troughs and stand pipes.  Do you have rain water barrels and water butts.  If not get them in now BEFORE the price goes sky high.

(stoopid question but....) how do you know when you've watered an inch?  does it mean that the water has gone one inch down or something else?

Its means in real terms that you shoud give your plants a good soaking every day when it is hot, not just a quick spinkle.

If you just water so that the topsoil is just about damp then the roots will turn up towards the surface looking for water, and the plant will start to slow down its growth.  In hot weather the leaves will wilt and can die ,again affecting the plants output.  So water very well and your plants will do well for you.
