I was in the local veg shop in Llanfyllin this morning and there was panic buying of beetroot. I missed it but apparently somone heard that beetroot juice is very good for lowering blood pressure. Anyone know what the science is behind this?

That's a new one on me, and I like to keep up with all the veggie trends. I do know that beet juice helps with low iron, but as for lowering blood pressure..... you're better off eliminating stress, fats from your diet, eating loads more whole grains and fibre, and doing weight training. Those are the real blood pressure equalizers.

This was in the papers not that long ago, but a expert reckons you will need to eat so much to make an impact that you physicaly couldnt eat it.

My blood pressure is caused by fluid retention. This is the conclusion my doctor and I have both reached after trying different treatments over the past couple of years.

Now I need to find why I suddenly started to retain fluid - and he said that no one yet knows why it happens.

I am determined to get off these tablets

I'm sure I read somewhere that celery is a diuretic.
