Best-tasting climbing French beans.
« on: August 19, 2019, 13:36 »
I've grown Cobra again but they don't seem to have the taste they used to do. It may just be down to the weather but can anyone recommend a better variety for next year?
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I've tried several types, but only grow Cosse Violette now.  To me, purple beans do seem to have more flavour, and these are lovely!  :tongue2:  They can grow quite large without becoming stringy, and freeze really well (they turn green when cooked).  :)

I really like Cosse Violette too. For green, I like Climbing Blue Lake and my favourite yellow is Neckargold. Yummy  :)

Hi

Had this problem with Cobra this and last year as well, also the bean pods were different shapes on the plants, maybe the seed is too blame.

Then again two varieties of dwarf green ones were not of the best taste though the dwarf yellow ones tasted as normal.

Though did not harvest a lot of yellow ones, the slugs and snails desimated the plants!

 :(

For a yellow climbing bean I like Kentucky Wonder Wax, it is superb in every way.
I am very fond of Cherokee Trail of Tears and Cobra too.
