"Blind" stalks on blackberries
« on: August 01, 2019, 20:48 »
Can anyone tell me why my blackberries have developed very strong blind stalks/limbs?  Have I pruned them incorrectly?

Probably need a bit more info to answer this - when you say they are blind, do you mean they aren't flowering/fruiting, or not growing properly ? Also, what variety are they?

Many blackberries send out vigorous new canes at this time of year, that don't fruit in the first year. They fruit in their second year, then get pruned out.

They are not producing frui, they are thicker than normal branches and are very vigourous.  I dont think the type is important as it has happened to all the different types I have grown
