Just been to plot for first time since back from 3 week hols and although I expected that would need some work to catch up again, it is horrendous
Got it in fairly good shape before I went and asked plot neighbour to water if needed.
Only one squash plant is now still there? and although planted my strawberries in straw and rabbit manure, can't see them for weeds
My overwintered onions are enormous and spring ones and shallots look great and my brassicas under debris netting really healthy.
Nothing else is there though
Beetroot, turnip, pak choi, radish are all gone.
So once I have tackled the weeds, will have lots of gaps with nothing growing. I know it's not too late for some crops but bit disheartening
My question is do I go back to a half plot?
Had a half plot for 5 years or so with lovely plot neighbours around me and then took on the other half 2 years ago.
OH helps with rotovating but I do everything which is fine as it is my hobby, not his.
Was struggling though before hols as increased my hours at work in January, planning to retire in 5 years and my daughter also goes to uni in Sept.
Have spent last year trying to make plot more manageable with paths and piling rabbit manure on everything but the half I took over has lots of fruit bushes at the end and I've really struggled to tackle them as they were so overgrown when I took plot on, about a third are now surrounded by weed fabric and chippings.
Just seeing it today makes me wonder if going back to a half plot would mean it becomes a pleasure again instead of a chore at times.
I love my plot and it's always been my bit of peace and quiet. Under my plum tree, I've made a patio area with a bench so somewhere shady to sit.
So what to do?
The plot next to me has been split in two down the middle, my lovely plot adopted dad gave up his plot
To say my new neighbour is odd is a small understatement
although I get more done as try to avoid getting into a conversation with her
If mine was split in the middle then I could keep my plum tree and also the shed.
So do I persevere as once I've given it up, might not get a chance to get it back?
Or do I have a half that is still big enough for me but I make the most of every inch?
At home I have a garden both front and back with hedges and there doesn't seem enough time to keep on top of this too sometimes.
I was so excited to get a full plot but after today, I'm torn to know what to do?
Advice please
