How are my babies going  to survive? They got a thorough watering last Friday with the rains. I’d watered them thoroughly every week as a build up prior to that, with top ups in between. I’m hoping that will stand them in good stead. I’ve got tomatoes with green fruit in them, sweet corn, caulis and broccoli, Swiss chard, French beans, courgettes.    Some of the younger veg eg beetroot which is still only leaves, might die I guess. I hope my apple tree doesn’t drop all its fruit. How’s everyone’s allotment  coping with the heat?

I find that quite a lot of plants are surprisingly resilient when it comes to dry spells. When I plant my veg or when the seeds germinate I give them a really good soaking and leave them for a bit to encourage their roots to go down into the soil for more moisture. After that I keep an eye out and either water them as needed or let the rain do it for me. I think yours will be ok especially the apple tree, so have a good hol and don't worry too much.  ;)
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

There is some rain forecast in the South over this week-end, plus temperatures will not be so high from end of this week, so should ne OK  ;). You will probably have some whopper courgettes when you return  :D

I'm sure you'll be fine.  I went to water this morning and everything was surprisingly fresh looking - and we're expecting the temperatures to cool down again as of Friday.

Also I gather a lot of places had rain last night so hopefully you got some as well
