Hi chaps - I've strung some onions and put a sack of potatoes in the shed but it's like an oven in there ... is that a real no no and must I try and find somewhere in the house ... the wife's wardrobe springs to mind !

My experience: the potatoes really need to keep cool, but the onions have been at my attic for the last 3 seasons and did fine. We ate onions until march the next year.

The potatoes have been in a fridge for the first year and when everything had cooled down they went to the basement. Again potatoes until march. The last 2 seasons they went straight to the basement where really isn't as cool as you would expect. The started sprouting in december, both years. This year it is fridge again.

You're not far off with your wife's wardrobe! Get some spare coat-hangers and attach your strung onions to it, then see if she's got an old T-shirt or similar that you can put your pots in and hang them up with another hanger. You now need to find a cool place so how's your attic, loft, cellar or basement? If all else fails, get a cheap second-hand large fridge and set it to its highest temperature.
