potato tops on compo heap
« on: July 09, 2019, 09:54 »

Hi I reckon my spuds are ready now and are ready to harvest. I was going to cut the tops off and put them on the compo heap before I dig them out. No problem with that is there? Makes it a bit easier to get in about the spuds too without the tops on them.

That'll be fine - if they're for storage it helps to leave them undug for 2 weeks, or longer, for the skins to set before lifting.

Good afternoon jambop,
It's a lot easier if you gather up the stalks of the spuds, hold them against the handle of the fork and lean back lifting the spuds.  Even better if you have a "Tatty howker".  (Potato fork).

Cheers,  Tony.
