Wiring Briggs and Stratton merry tiller major
« on: June 09, 2019, 14:59 »
Hi all,

I have acquired a 1976 onwards tiller with a Briggs and Stratton 5hp engine. There is a wire hanging from the end of the engine with a round loop on the end. I have trawled the net looking for a diagram as to where this may need to be attached. Any help gratefully received.

hello can you post a photo is it a thick or thin wire if its thin it could be part of the ignition its a long time since I stripped an old Briggs and Stratton engine if I remember right there's a wire from the condenser to the points unit if its a thick wire it could be the high tension lead which goes from the points to the spark plug this could have a screw on cap which the ring goes over then the cap tightens down  jezza

That is the "kill wire" and earthing it should ensure the engine won't run, if it does, then that is the end that should go to the coil or the condenser if it has points.
