Pond algae as mulch/feed
« on: April 26, 2019, 07:51 »
My pond generates loads of algae which I throw on the compost heap (once the newts have escaped).  Does anyone have experience of applying it directly to soil around plants?  Got to be loads of nutrients in that slime.

I've removed large amounts of blanket weed from a pond, and left it on the side so any wildlife in it could make its way back into the pond. It was an impressive amount of material at the time, but a week later it had dried out to almost nothing. So I'm not sure it would provide all that much nutrition. Spreading it around your plants would be a quick way to dispose of it though. G&R
