Duff sweetcorn.
« on: April 11, 2019, 11:08 »
You know the pithy statement, "Smile, things could be worse, so I smiled and yep they got worse".

I sent a letter of complaint about bad germination of Lark F1 sweetcorn seeds to Mr Fothergills.  About seven or so germinated and  I included photographic evidence. Two packets of 'Lark F1' Were returned.  Out of fourty seeds of the returned packets only one has germinated.

So I'm trying a packet of sweetcorn I brought back from Greece, I won't try and write down the variety as it is in Greek!  But it's from the Primasem Seeds Company It looks like KAVAMNOKITAYKO, the 'V' is inverted and the 'T' has the top left segment missing.  Anyone out there read Greek?

I've found the 'duff' seeds and there is no sign of rot or softening.

I'll report how these get on.

Cheers,  Tony.

MoS used to live in Greece so probably would convert it to English spelling much quicker than me (and with more certainty), but for what it's worth I make it 'Kalamnokigayko' (not something you'd see very often in UK garden centres I suspect!  :lol:)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Sounds like Kilimanjaro, in which case better get some ladders when they need harvesting!
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

The two characters you mentuion are Lambda Λ and Gamma Γ in Uppercase.
The greek alphabet looks like this, uppercase first and lowercase second. Theta and Sigma have dual lowercase;

Alpha = Α α
Beta = Β β
Gamma = Γ γ
Delta = Δ δ
Epsilon = Ε ε
Zeta = Ζ ζ
Eta = Η η
Theta = Θ θϑ
Iota = Ι ι
Kappa = Κ κ
Lambda =Λ λ
Mu = Μ μ
Nu = Ν ν
Xi = Ξ ξ
Omicron = Ο ο
Pi = Π π
Rho= Ρ ρ
Sigma = Σ σς
Tau = Τ τ
Upsilon = Υ υ
Phi = Φ φ
Chi = Χ χ
Psi= Ψ ψ
Omega = Ω ω

Cannot see that sweetcorn, doing any kind of web search.
Can you post a pic of the packet?
