Very small fruit cage ... what to put in it
« on: April 05, 2019, 15:40 »
Hi I have the poles and netting to be able to make a small cage 4' x 4' x 5' high ... is there anything I can put in it ... I guess plums are too tall but I don't like raspberries or things with tiny seeds, any ideas please and is now a good time to start ?

If you could make it 5' X 4' X 4' high you could just about squeeze two blueberry bushes inside, although you would of course need to make sure they had acidic soil to grow in (they'd be too tall for the cage if you grew them in pots, although you might just get away with that if you chose a dwarf variety like 'Tophat'.)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

If your soil is acidic you could also try cranberries and similar fruits, melons, cukes trained at a 45 degree angle, step-over apples, or fruit on a dwarf root stock (Pixie?) which you could train as an espalier.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Do know someone who grows dwarf cherry and nectrarine trees in pots (the ten trees they have are dwarf and none are bigger than five foot high and three feet wide) and covers each tree individually with a fruit cage as they get some animals that nibble a little at the fruit when producing.
They  have have been producing good crops for a good decade like that
