« on: January 19, 2019, 15:41 »
I was watching a farming program the other afternoon and it  included a smallholder growing veg I think it was in Northern Ireland I was watching one of the lads using a hoe on wheels I think we used to call them a J Hoe but not sure

did anyone see the prog or knows what they call this type of hoe?

Funnily enough it's called a wheel hoe ;) They are quite expensive to buy.

One on ebay reasonable starting price

Rowland, here's one I made earlier...

The 'Growster' Wheel Hoe... in Equipment Shed - Page 1 of 2

I've still got it, and if you're ever around here, you're welcome to have it! (We've given up 'The Patch' after a long and hard decision time!

It's very 'robust' and like many of these implements, home-made, but there again, why not replicate the actions of our forebears!

In the UK these hoes were made by J Lowe Ltd who called them the JaLo, but the tools are identical to those made in the US by Planet Junior. My "specialist subject" is Merry Tillers, and Wolseley/Webb sold the JaLo tools to be fitted to the back of Merry Tillers. You could get side hoes, small furrowers, Dutch hoes, rakes, etc. I think either Planet Junior or JaLo sold a two wheel version of the hoe frame too.
