Is it too early to consider this task yet  (Please say YES)   no seriously, it has put on a little bit of growth, and I have noticed a few people around have cut theirs.  ?

Yes  :D

I suppose if the ground isn't wet and waterlogged you could do it, but given there's a cold snap forecast I wouldn't risk it.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Leave it till after the cold spell but can cut at a high level say 2" as long as it is dry. Best not use if you have a heavy rear roller on the mower.
