well just as we hoped, dad sent the lads from work over this morning to dig my veggie patch.

the bark and weed stopping matting has been removed and the mud made to look pretty. with a path of bark down one side.

here's how it looks now, is it ok and a close up of my mud.

what do i do with it now?

Wow!  I wish someone would help me with mine!! I don't even get help from OH, let alone people sent to help!!

Your soil looks like it might be a little bit sandy - how boggy is it when it rains?

I'd say get som organic stuff in there generally, and maybe some manure on the bits that you're not planting tap rooted veggies, ie carrots & parsnips.

Have you got a plan laid out for what you want to have where?

chook poo will be fine but it's high in nitrogen, so will help your plants to put on lots of leaf but don't put so much on when you want them to develop their fruits  - you'll need something like tomato feed for that stage.

Personally I've been digging my beds and putting the straw from the coop, poo and all on top as I go, and i'll dig it into the soil in a week or two (when the snow's let up).

If you're just going to put your one carrot in there then make sure that it's not really stoney and avoid that area of chicken poo otherwise it'll have more legs than an octopus!

If you can just get hold of some bags of compost and spread these around it would be fine - the worms will take it underground and aerate your soil for you!

You going to set up any compost bins, Babe? Choose the corner with the least light for that. Your single carrot's tops should half fill the bin

You might also want to source your area for any city/town/council made compost in bulk. It'll nicely compliment the chicken poo.

It's a pretty small area so I wouldn't use large pavers for walkways. You'd be better off with narrow pallet wood laid singly as paths.
And whichever way the sun rolls across your yard, I'd plant all taller growing crops to the west side so they don't block sun from shorter ones.

... and 63 in Nottingham!

I am curious - how tall is your fence?  It looks absolutely enormous - do you actually get sunlight? :?
