horse manure
« on: July 23, 2018, 18:12 »

    Evening All
I have the chance of a lot of horse manure, only it is mixed in with hay and
sawdust. The hay i guess will be fine, but i,am not so sure about the sawdust.
                    Any advice will be appreciated.
                                                                     Cheers.
keep on digging

As long it is well rotted it will be fine & if not stack it & turn it & cover it & in a few months it will be well rotted. Just don’t make the mistake my plot neighbour did of spreading about 2” thick not rotted over the winter & then wonder why it looks the same. It rots faster in a heap & even faster if you mix it up every now & again

It's hard to think of a better soil-improver than horse-muck mixed in with wood shavings, wood chippings or sawdust. We keep a couple of ponies and their droppings plus soiled bedding gets stored in large heaps for a few months from spring through to autumn and then gets spread over all the beds and then tilled in during late winter. Our soil here is thick sticky clay but over the years this treatment has completely transformed it into good rich loam
