Summer update
« on: February 01, 2008, 09:03 »
As some of you know I live on the "other side" and give you an insight of what it is like.
I posted about a great spring with early warm weather and growth.
It is now seven weeks since we have had any measurable rain. The rain yesterday WAS measurable, in that I could count the number of drops on my windscreen. The temps have been 30c +( high of 37)  and the hose has been on the garden constantly.
I am digging the second crop of early spuds and have planted my main crop. The runner beans are being picked every day and most given away.( not a waste as I now have firewood for the winter  :D ) The early tomatoes are just about finished and the main crop of plum varieties are coming on stream and should last through to June. Second sowings of salad greens, leeks and brocolli. The parsnips are up and looking good, but who knows?
This is how summer was before "global warming" and it is good. You drive down the road and see your wheel tracks in the mirror as you squash all the crickets on the road. The fishing is good, BBQs are the way to cook, the local school gala day doesn't get rained off and the beer is cold, cold and plentyfull.

My beer is really cold too & it would actually cool down further if taken from the fridge into the garden!

Great to hear your story though.   It makes summer feel somewhat closer.
