Hullo Fellow Gardeners,

My runner beans, which I started in paper pots, are now thriving wonderfully. I wonder if I could start some more in pots and place these next to the ones already there, so the new ones will get going when the first ones have ceased yielding beans. Is this possible/desirable?

When I plant out the ones I've sown in paper pots I sow a few additional seeds directly into the ground, so the extra plants are around 2-3 weeks behind the others. Leaving it this late to sow some more may work, although you will probably need a nice warm autumn for it to work well.

It is worth trying a few seed, nothing to lose - although it seems a bit late for runners, as you say - but I have just done this with the French beans which seem to crop a bit more quickly than runners    Fingers crossed eh?
