Reduction in laying
« on: January 31, 2008, 20:28 »
Our two hens started laying again at the start of the month and for two weeks we had 10 eggs a week, but last week we only had five, and it looks like we will have the same again this week.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this has happened? They are still having the same food etc. and seem their normal happy selves.

Could it just be a natural glitch or am I doing something wrong?

But I posted a vegan version too, so I wouldn't need THAT many eggs :(

:( I'm having to save up eggs (Peter keeps wanting a fried one but the ones I've got are all 'spoken for')

They are little organic beings Rose.  They'll be fine,  probably lay more regularly as the days get brighter  :D

 Thanks, don't go including me in your 'our' Rich, I'm paranoid about my weight enough as it is...

So I'm worrying about nothing then? They have been eating a bit more than usual, I put it down to the cold weather I will cut back on the treats a wee bit.

Eyup, Daisy n Polly have not laid since last October.

Up till Christmas I was getting alternately 2 and 3 eggs daily from my 3 ex batts.

Then at beginning of January they seamed to have a rest and I only got 5 eggs in a week for a couple of weeks.

Now back to alternate 2 then 3 eggs daily.  One of which is a "normal" large size egg the other is a monster more fitting to a duck.

No change in food, or owt else i can think of.

I reckon just natural variance.  At first I thought they were going "off lay" but only lasted a week or two.

Polly n Daisy still not laying though.

Sorry no advice from me but just wanted to return the favour by offering you some eggs!  I've got 2 of my 3 hens laying now, the only trouble is we keep eating them, so supply hasn't quite caught up with demand.  I'm saving them now for pancake day!
I expect yours will get going again soon.
