« on: January 29, 2008, 21:56 »
Hi, i'm adding 2 more raised beds to the 4 I currently have.  last time i filled them with topsoil, however I can buy compost in bulk cheaper than topsoil this time.  is compost on its own suitable, or should i ensure of mix of both?

I'd go for a mix since topsoil will have more minerals.   Either that or add rock dust to the compost.  http://www.seercentre.org.uk/rockdust.htm

Why not mix it up with the soil in the 4 beds, so that you have 6 beds of 2/3 soil 1/3 compost.

That's about the ratio of my first one last year and it worked really well.

I'd say go for the compost judging by the results people got on our site.  I've got soil with a goodly layer of compost on top going in my new beds.
