Keep an eye on local forecast! - Storm named Aileen now
« on: September 11, 2017, 18:56 »
Strong winds have been forecast for Tuesday evening through to Wednesday morning, via MetO.

Time to batten down the hatches again.

It's all going to happen in the next few days because we are finally going to be able to escape from the Island next week, first time for two years, ( we are not holding our breath because with aging PIL, things may change ). We have booked a camp site near Banbury, Oxfordshire and are really looking forward to exploring Stratford etc.   We both need to get away.

Fingers crossed for you Wighty. It is very important to keep your batteries charged even if you do have responsibilities. You are no good to anyone if you go poorly!!!!

Make sure you go to Hook Norton brewery, sample the ales and meet the horses.  Warwick is local, and of course Oxford.  Lots of lovely scenery and nice places to eat.  Banbury is a practical sort of place and parking is a bit pricy in the centre, but if you want to stock up on things that are expensive on the Island before you go home, it's good.  Stratford - park at the park and ride north of the town and catch the bus in.  Cheaper and much less stressful!

Where are you staying?

Amber warning for us in Nottingham, we are usually lucky and don't get the worst of any storms, I guess it had to be our turn eventually.

Maximum gust here according to the local weather station was 55mph at 0400, which by a strange coincidence was when I woke up to close my bedroom window. Amazing how much less potent it sounded behind the double glazing, especially as it also stopped the door rattling with every gust.  ::)

That's pretty strong for round here, but apart from a wheely bin having a kip, I can't see any obvious damage, although the tired old runner beans won't have enjoyed it much, and I've not been outside to check for any missing slates yet...

Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

It kept me awake from 1 till 4am. I'm paranoid after Doris as I still haven't finished the repairs or replaced the fence panels she blew out yet  No been brave enough to check the back garden yet.

Skimmed north of us I am glad to say.  The apples are still on the trees and the runners no worse than they were.  Good drying day for the washing now, flapping like mad!

According to radio 4 the hottest day of 2016 was a year ago today.  8)   2017 doesn't appear to have followed the model.   :(
