Welcome to my world! Voles/mice or some other kind of rodent. Voles in my case. You're right, they are less keen on turnips, but enjoy carrots, chard roots, parsley root and even (surprisingly) have been known to eat leeks >:(

I'd be interested to know if they've eaten anything else of yours yet?

My cat's a good hunter but she doesn't seem to make any dent in the numbers.

I'd say a rodent of some description as well - vole or rat probably from the size of the teeth marks.

We are also victims of the Phantom Beetroot Muncher. Caught lots of mice around them, and the carrots, so am guessing mice are the culprits, although as New Shoot says, rats are keen too!

Rats I think have had a go at mine, going by the teeth marks.  We are in the country by a stream and they are a fact of life.  But it could be the mice or voles or squirrels ....

I'm intrigued by what is gnawing on the charlottes underground.     Teeth marks look like rodent, but no tunnels.

Thanks guys , makes sense as I sowed the beetroot this year at the bottom of the plot which slopes down to a hedge adjoining a farmers field . I've not climbed over but I assume there will be a drainage ditch on the other side .

Might invest in a cat or perhaps apply to import a Lynx  >:(

If you find a source of lynxes, perhaps you could let me know  OK, maybe not. But it did sound an attractive proposition
