Seed spuds in southend area
« on: January 27, 2008, 21:07 »
Hi.
Here we go again ,
another year,
its year two of my allotmenting and i have learnt so much in one year.

Big lesson learnt--- We get potato blight.
I am looking to buy some resistant  seed pots this year, but dont know where to get them as usual places(wyvale etc) dont seem to have them.
I am in southend on sea area and i am looking for
Orla , Cosmos , Cara,
Anyone know where i should go to get them( on the net it seems postage is hiking up cost.)
thanks
When the sun shines i dig,
When rain pours i dig
When the wind blows---I SURF.

Allan

Another way to avoid blight, which last season was rampant on our site would be to only grow first Earlie's.

By the time blight comes along your Earlie's should be out of the ground. And when maincrop are ready to harvest the supermarkets are full of cheap spuds. So you could grow Earlie's and then when they are lifted in June use the space for another crop.
99% Organic and 1% Slug Pellets.

Allotment holder since 27th May 2007.

Hi Fatbelly,
Now i had not given that a thought, especiall when earlies are the ones everyone remarks over( the others are just potatoes dad, as my daughter puts it!)
Will consider, thanks

Hi, I'm in Southend too

Had to order mine back in October - our onsite shop gets them in.

I got mine from Dobies online last year.
I ordered enough to fill my bed about fifteen times over - lesson learnt for this year!!!
Good beer, good BBQ and good friends.
