New to growing - Question on manure
« on: January 27, 2008, 16:48 »
Managed to take on a plot in October last year and I am currently digging it over. Previous plot holder had it for a couple of months and planted a section with spuds (which i'm still digging out) the other 3 quarters haven't been dug.

main question is can I apply manure once I've dug over a section or have I let it too late.

Any advice very much appreciated.

I don't think tis ever too late but it will depend on what you want to grow as to where you put it.  some stuff grows better without it.

I will be trying to grow anything and everything.

Have seed pots, root veg, peas/beans, brassicas, sweetcorn, salad crops, herbs and lots of onions and leeks. Afraid I had a little too much time at the computer over Christmas and went mad on the ordering.

The only thing I have not got yet is any type of fruit.

I was unable to prepare any ground  before planting out last year.

I ordered some well rotted manure, and put a spades worth in each hole as I planted stuff out - ie, corn, beans, courgettes, toms - all grew well.

Thanks for the quick and useful responses, looks like a trip to the local stables.

Thanks again.
