slow pumpkins

I've planted out pumpkins (turks turban) at beginning of June and while they look healthy enough they just are growing really really slowly....Should I give them a mulch of manure and some chicken pellets?

Also have some poutry manure tea brewing would that help?

Or should I leave well alone and go up one day to find they've woken up and taken over?

No.2 wake up one day to find your plot taken over.

My method is to dig a hole 2x2 and fill with manure and plant in that and sit and wait. To be honest I was not over keen on Turks for eating, there is far better like Crown Prince squash, similar size but far better tasting.

I grew turks and Crown Prince 2 years ago.

I liked the turks for eating and they look so fabulous - the crown prince were probably better though on balance for taste - but I'd run out of CP seeds and was trying to use up what was left!

I've got some more to plant out this weekend to make up for some that got slugged so I'll try the digging out a hole for manure and see how that goes. Fingers crossed for a long hot autumn so they might ripen.

Quite honestly, whatever you do is almost immaterial!! Just be grateful that they are growing leaves and possibly throwing out flowers..... the rest will happen in due course if the fates are aligned.
