Me and the missus are having a pumpkin growing competition. We're growing them in big tubs and I believe we should only allow 2 fruits per plant.Do we allow the vine to grow as much as it likes around the trellis while taking off all the female flowers but 2. or do we stop the vine like a tomato by cutting off the growing tip when 2 fruits have set.The vine past the second fruit is about an inch thick, is it okay to cut this  ?

If you take off the rest of the plant completely then you take away a large number of leaves that are feeding the plant so my personal view is that removing any further flowers is the way to go

I am not however, experienced in growing giant pumpkins, just normal sized ones

Thanks for that, consider it done. Now I need some sneaky feeding tips so that mine grow bigger than hers.
