grass around fruit tree's?
« on: May 09, 2017, 06:12 »
just a quick one.

i usually mulch around my fruit trees with rabbit manure, but not got round to it for a while. a few months ago i put some raked up lawn/ moss around and now grass is growing.

does it make any difference to the nutrients available weather there's grass or not? what are the pro's and coms of grass. i've got plastic mesh sleeves around the trunks of the tree's so strimming shouldn't be too much of a problem.

cheers

Yes, the grass will take nutrients from the tree, especially young trees. It can retard their growth. Older trees, I imagine, would be less effected.

Indeed, age and root stock. If these are well established non-dwarfs, you do not need to worry much or at all, especially if they get fed.
