Blueberries and Gooseberries
« on: May 07, 2017, 22:33 »
Half of my blueberry bushes (I live in South London) still have no leaves - they are about 10 years old - is there no hope.
Some of my Gooseberry bushes have no fruit yet - is there no hope?

My blueberry bushes are awash with blossom so I guess no leaves is a bad sign  :(

Are they growing in open ground or containers? Is the soil/compost acidic enough? do you feed them?

My goosegogs have small fruit but we are a lot further behind up here in Cumbria. I would imagine yours should be well on by now.

And I never knew they could be grown in this climate, and you have had yours for 10 years, londongardener.
Are they generally short lived?

And have you noticed any pests on them?

Some of the gooseberries have small fruit but some don't so at least I will get something.
The gooseberries are in a mix of open ground and containers.
The blueberries are all in containers, acidic soil and I have not fed them ever but I will tonight.

My gooseberries always start to fruit from around mid may.
But this year they have already started.
Maybe they have liked the no rain (plenty of daily hose watering) and longer warm spells over April and now May.
Mine are at this stage at the moment.
