Coir compost and slugs, beneficial ?
« on: April 08, 2017, 20:39 »
Been experimenting a bit with coir.

Got some coir 'block' and rehydrated it, mixed in with my regular compost. Loaded up a couple of troughs, one with 'straight' compost and the other with coir mix.
I sowed mixed salad leaves for early cutting, interestingly the regular had some slug damage, the coir mix, none!

Is this a benefit of coir? The mix was only about 30% coir, but a definite difference!

More experimentation needed  :D

Indeed!  Do keep us up to date on this one.  I wonder if the slugs don't like the sharp ends to the coir fibres ...
