Candlesnuff Fungi on autumn Raspberry roots
« on: December 10, 2016, 13:31 »
Hi, I was cutting down the autumn raspberry plants today and found what looks like white antler looking fungi growing on 3 of them. Google tells me that this is Candlesnuff fungus. Does any one know if this is terminal for the plants or can it be treated?
Regards,
Chris.

If that is what you have there, it grows on dead wood rather than living wood - usually tree stumps *confused*

I'd certainly dig up the obviously 'diseased' plants, and then look for reasons for the plants dying, if that makes sense?

I've noticed more Candlesnuff than usual this year, inc growing in grass - it's possible it's just on the dead bits of raspberry stem. It's not a pathogen so I really wouldn't worry about it, just watch to see that something else isn't killing off the raspberries.
