Marrow seeds
« on: October 16, 2016, 19:51 »
Hi all, I have courgette which is marrow sized. Will the seeds be viable & if so, how do I store them?
Thanks.

If the seeds have reached the same size as those you originally sowed, there is every chance they will germinate after careful drying and storing in a cool, dry, place.

If they were an F1 variety they probably won't grow true to type from saved seed, and even if they weren't F1 but were grown anywhere near other cucurbits (squashes, other courgette varieties) they are quite likely to have cross pollinated with them, again giving unpredictable results.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Thanks Jay, they were in isolation & 2 plants produced 2 courgettes.

I let them both grow to (small) marrow size & the seeds are about 1cm. I'm drying them on kitchen paper in the utility room which stays at a fairly constant temperature, cool.

Not sure it woukd be worth saving if they were an "epic fail" . Might be worth getting some more prolific seeds

Is that for real.............it's a must have if it is

I think the failure is more to do with my inability to grow stuff

question
Can you eat courgette/marrow seeds?
