I haven't logged into the forum for a few weeks and thought I'd see what everyone was up to.  This thread has given e a little jolt because I've been putting things off. I'm going to go up there this afternoon and make a start!

Oh my goodness, I am so behind. Was a conference last weekend, them it rained, the weekend before that I was laid up abit due to cold.  Well behind but have plans to get Hubble to help and catch up a bit but am in need of blackmail material.  Need a major harvest - have sweetcorn, potatoes and pumpkins to harvest.  Onions and garlic need planting too. Such a lot to do - sort of can't wait.

Dug the patch over very well on Saturday, added some poultry manure. Plan to empty the compost bin, and add what's suitable to the veg patch on Thursday, then we are more or less sorted for the winter!

I am feeling much less behind now that I've dug over and weeded another 2 large beds over the last couple of days.  Now I need to buy some manure and weed matting to cover them with. And then there are more beds to clear...

BBQ cleaned and packed away for the winter. Cleared a load of leaves and pine needles off the paths around the house.

I'm hedge cutting today, either too late or too early,  but it just had to be done!

I need to get a plan together as ive done nothing!
As this is the first time ive done a Autumn Tidyup I imagine itll have a bit of a steep learning curve!
Are there any prio jobs I should concentrate on?
The hedge definatly needs doing as its overgrown into the area thats going to house my new free range paddock.

The hedge sounds a good start.

I would concentrate on the jobs you need to do to allow you to move on with your priority projects.  A lot of stuff can be put on the back burner over winter and done as and when.

Just work with the weather conditions.  If the soil is sodden, leave digging veg beds for another day.  If a bright dry spell arrives, get out there and make the most of it  :)

After digging another two beds today, finally feel in control and ready for winter. What is left is managable and minor and with crops still on plot, bare areas are all dug over and weeded.

I am almost ready to be honest. 2 beds dug over already and the rest of them are ok. The very few weeds that are there can be sorted next week. The paths are strimmed, although I have ran put of strimmer line. The few things I have in at the moment (Swedes and Cabbage's) are doing well.

I've put my back out trying to clear out at least a million - maybe more - montbretia corms, and there's the same amount to do in the front..:0(

Poor you! Gently does it for a few days. Those corms will still be there when you are ready to tackle them, and at least they won't be multiplying right now.

I've been pretty busy cutting up stuff for the compost bin and somehow managed to create a whole cubic metre in a week (!). The frost-blackened dahlia tops are in there, although the tubers are still in the ground. Not sure whether to leave them in over the Winter ... might leave the big ones in the back row and bring the others so I can divide them, especially the purple small pompom. Runner beans plants are down and sticks tied in bundles and in store.

Manure on six beds for #145 and 3 for #146.

Most things are "in" at home now. Need to clear floor space by the big doors at home for the lemon and orange trees' winter quarters and take in the large shallow pot of pelargoniums.

Montbretia! The bane of my life ever since the husband of a friend of my wife "did me a favour" about twenty years ago when I was spending most days overseas. He planted a couple of clumps out of his own garden. I lived with them happily until a few years ago when they mounted a serious take-over of the borders. If the Good Lord spares me long enough, I WILL get rid of them.

I'm not the only householder to be tormented by them. They decorate many lane verges around here
