Hello fellow gardeners,

I have been away from the forum for a while (slipped disc and shingles at the same put me hors de combat during the busiest garden months). Anyhow, gearing up for next year,  I remember somebody talking last year about taking suckers and overwintering them for use in the spring. I cannot remember the exact details, can someone refresh my memory please? I don't have a greenhouse, so they would have to be stored in the attic or cellar. Do they have to keep being repotted as they grow bigger or does their growth slow down during the winter?

Are we talking fruit tree grafting, or taking suckers from perennial veg/plants?

Sorry I really should have been a lot more specific. I am talking about tomato plants.

I kept mine on a cool bedroom window-ledge. Grown cool they don't grow very much, so stay in the same pot til spring.

Thanks a lot for your prompt answer. Do you take the smallest suckers and can you use cuttings as well?

I wait 'til the suckers are about 5 inches you could also take top cuttings of the same size.
