Coop roof
« on: October 08, 2016, 12:39 »
Hi all was after a bit of advice please
We have just bought a new 8 X 6 tounge and groove shed with a pent roof for our hens. We have changed the felt roof for a bitumen corrugated roof for 2 reasons to keep any red mite at bay and as ventilation
The question is with the corrugated roof will we still need to put extra vents in the top of the shed or will the roof be sufficient ventilation??? Look forward to hearing your views thanks max

Does it have any windows. You could remove glass and use wire mesh.

You can still get red mite, so use and envelope along cracks to test.

Thanks grinling for your reply yes it does have a window but was worried that if we took the window out and put wire there it would make it to cold in the depths of winter. Where it's positioned is very windy and bitter cold in the winter. Was thinking of making the window an opener and put some wire on the inside so it can be opened and closed accordingly.
I know the courregated roof won't stop the red mite but I thought every little helps. Good tip about using an envelope to check in the cracks thanks max

An opener might break if windy, but you could put a porch over the window.
2010 was the coldest winter, Lincolnshire was -15 and BIL chooks survived.
