Wiggly white bits - what are they?
« on: January 24, 2008, 00:16 »
Strange question i know!

What are the wiggly white bits i have found in the whites of supermarket bought eggs?

I know the eggs are from caged hens (don't bl@@dy buy em any more!) so it can't be anything "growing" but they still freak me out!!

I'm just curious... Please don't ask me to explain any more because "wiggly white bits" has taxed me enough

Also do you get them in fresh eggs?

They are called Chalaza, and keep the yolk positioned in the middle of the egg.

Have a look ath this Defra leaflet, it will tell you all you need to know about eggs

What a good leaflet!!

Thanks for that, not knowing what they were totally weirded me out. To the point where i couldn't eat eggs if they were really obvious. I'm slightly strange i admit  :D

No one knows the answer to a question until they've asked it.  Yes, I think that's a brilliant leaflet too  :D
