I agree with you Jay G, I've grown Marmande this year and I'm not that impressed with the flavour. But then, I don't think my toms are as good this year as previous years.

My Tigerella and Black Russian don't seem quite as good as last year either.

After Beekissed comment above, I'm wondering if it's down to the feed that I've been giving them, which is possibly different to last year.

Thanks for all your suggestions - plenty to think about, although my tomato crop has been so prolific this year that neither I nor my freezer and fridge even want to think about varieties for next year just now!  :ohmy:
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
