Cockerel spurs
« on: July 05, 2016, 11:36 »
Hi  My latest cockerel is somewhat of a ladies nightmare, he is named Roger.  I have 4 girls and he is about 2-3 years old.  Overtime I hold him and my other half trims his spurs, but each time you nip the end off it bleeds now.  He is such an amorous bird and loves on particular girl her feathers are not looking good because of the damage of his spurts, the others look somewhat shabby as well.

Any ideas out there what could be done to take his spurs back further maybe, not sure if its definitely time for a trip to the vets or there are some ideas out there  Many thanks

One of our members recommends a method of removing spurs:

Failing that try a saddle:  http://www.flytesofancy.co.uk/chickenhouses/Poultry_Saddles.html

(Other saddles are available.)
