propogation via cuttings
« on: May 12, 2016, 12:26 »
Other than tomato arm pits does anyone take cuttings? I've tried over the years with the woody herbs and peppers without much success, but the pepino cuttings I took earlier in the year appear to have rooted in water.  :D

Rosemary and sage seem to be quite easy, but thyme, which is also supposed to be easy, I always struggle with whether it be layering, rooting in water, witchcraft...  ::)

Not tried rooting pepper cuttings, mainly because I only grow cayenne now which are not F1 so can be easily grown from saved seed (and I usually get the plants to last about 4 years before replacing them.)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

I've rooted cuttings from Rosemary and Mint in pots, and watercress and basil in water.

Most of the soft fruit bushes root easily from cuttings or bending over, and planting, the root tips on the climbing berries.

I do a lot of cuttings from blackcurrants and gooseberries, grapes and basil and rosemary. I did so much blackcurrant cuttings in my first year that it took me 3 years to give most of them away - 120 +
I also do loads of rose cuttings also

Gooseberries, redcurrants, blackcurrants, grapes, chrysanthemum, dahlia, impatiens, box, sage, rosemary, conifers, apple rootstocks, alpines, elderflower (black).

Hoping some plum, pear and cherry rootstock cuttings work this year.

Planning to air layer a lemon tree in the summer.
