Our last run started off with a secure weldmesh roof, but we soon discovered the need for something more weather proof so added translucent PVC corregated panels on top of the mesh.  The run soon became a much pleasenter place for all concerned!

We are now starting again in a new location and construction is underway.  Part of the run has a concrete floor so the roof over that area will just be mesh. The other half is earth so will need the PVC corregated sheet.

We are knee deep in foxes and badgers here so my inclination is to make the thing like a nuclear bunker. ie, firmly mesh every inch and add the plastic sheet on top where required.

However wondering if the run would be secure enough without bothering with mesh under the plastic covered area?  Is plastic alone strong enough to keep out foxes and badgers?

The plastic would not be fox proof but is it easy for them to get onto it bearing in mind they can jump over six feet? Could you suspend some floppy netting far enough above to roof so that they could not get a secure foothold? Would electric fencing help even at 45 degrees around the roof area? Just thoughts!

Decided on belt and braces. Weldmesh over the whole roof, with about a third of that with PVC sheet on top.
When I calculated the mesh for the sides, there was enough on the roll to do the roof as well. So that was the decider.
Better safe than sorry!
