Has anyone grown carrots in spent compost ? I was about to use it as mulch but before I scatter it I thought Id ask.

I have, just added some BF&B

That all I use in a recycle box.
As MOS said just add a handful of BFB and seeds!

That's actually exactly what I was doing with it in the recycling box to mulch the accursed raspberries when I had a "hang on a minute" moment.   

Better find some seed then.

Mine goes in an old barrow to keep it above those pesky flies and ..... grew the best carrots we have ever had!

Same here, we sow four buckets in succession in any old compost with some new added.

We're still using the final bucket from last year, although I did lift them and sort them out in layers in some old compost.

I hadn't thought of that before.

Going to try sowing carrots in between the shallots this year, too, trying to mask the scent, so those little blighters don't get at them!

I have done - but one cautionary tip, scan every bit for vine weevils. They make a ruddy mess of carrots too. Lost all last year's tub-grown ones.

We get a few of those here, but mainly indoors.

Might pop a few Autumn King in this week end, they don't get too big in an ordinary builders plastic bucket, on the frost-free greenhouse floor. (to start with anyway)!
