Hi guys,
After about a yr or 2 I'm thinking of getting hens again. The hen house has been sat at the end of the garden in all weather being very unloved. It's wet, green, rusty and shabby in places. I think our last set of hens may have had mites too.
I need to get the hen house back up to a habitable conditions. Where do I start and what do I need to do.

We are moving the hen house down the allotment back home, to get it ready for new hens when my elderly ladies stop laying.  The roof of the nest box has rotted, and it needs a good clean out with Poultry Shield and puffing with diatom.  New hinges etc will be put on, and then it should be fit to go.  If I were you I would give the house a scrub with some soapy water and then again with poultry shield or equivalent.  Sealing inside may help with the red mite issue, but as I've been lucky I've never had to deal with that problem.  Happy renovating!

hillfooter's slurry is brill for redmite.

Scrub everything if not being replaced.

If not planning on a run can you keep it under cover like a greenhouse for extra protection and only add hens when dry,
