Overwintered Onions mullered by the rain?
« on: February 18, 2016, 19:22 »
Been down the plot today and noticed the onion sets have started to soften with the constant, persistant, ridiculous amounts of rain were all getting , any chance for these babies or rip em out and start again  {if and when we get a reasonably dry spell}?

. . . You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning. . . .

If the greens are still standing I wouldn't worry.

The food reserves in the bulbs have been used over the winter and I wouldn't be surprised if they went soft. As the weather improves and they start producing more food than they are consuming the bulbs should start to swell again.

Yes I agree. The Winter we were flooded the autumn onions were underwater for about ten days, and amazingly they grew and produced decent onions once the ground dried out a bit. The only thing was that many of them bolted but we ate them as we went rather than trying to store them so it was not a disaster.

Give them a chance and they should be just fine.
