Rhubarb forcing pot
« on: February 04, 2016, 12:45 »
Hi,

Anyone on here know of a supplier at a reasonable cost?  I am sure we are not all billionaires!!

Mike.

Find someone who does pottery as a hobby (possibly at your library) and ask them.  Just an idea.

Cheers,Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Upside down dustbin? (metal or plastic)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Thank you Tony and Yorkie,

Most pots have a lid, does this lid need to be fitted during the forcing process?  Never thought of using an upturned bin!!

I use an old 'dalek' composter, has removable lid for harvesting.

The light needs to be excluded so you do need a lid.

i don't see why you couldn't use anything that blocks the light out. the above suggestions sound good,

or i can't see why you couldn't use a tarp and make or acquire some sort of frame to secure the tap over.

you could also prob use a chest of draws with the shelves removed, just open the doors to harvest. it may look a little out of place, but you could paint green/ camo and they are always being given away.

Yup upside down bin, planter, large bucket here too.  Never really thought you need a lid although a small bit of light would make the stalks try a bit harder I would guess, but I've never had a problem and I force a crown most years (different ones).
